Grade two activities
Victory laps - (Able)
Purpose: To celebrate achievements and be active.
Materials: Race track picture or bulletin board, a race car template for each student.
Activity Description: Students design their race car templates and the class sets a goal of how far they want to travel collectively – maybe 100 km. Students then set daily goals and move their race car along the big race track as they achieve these goals. For every goal achieved, they get a lap on the track with their friends and move their cars forward on the race track bulletin board. On Friday or any other given day, the class gets to dress in school colours, use face paint, attach streamers to their clothing, go outside and walk/run or skip their laps around the school or the track with their friends and enjoy some free play.
Guiding Questions:
- How did we decide on a goal?
- Was it easier or more difficult to achieve the goal as a class?
- How did you contribute to the class goal?
Compliment Central - (Caring)
Purpose: A central place for students to share nice things they have seen.
Materials: A tree made out of paper, a small artificial tree or a small statue, squares of paper and gel pens or fancy markers.

Compliments can also be left for the class from the teacher, from parents or from administration. Teacher ensures each child is recognized for something great. Students can also draw names and be given the leadership role of giving the student on the paper a compliment to ensure everyone receives positive recognition.
Guiding Questions:
- How do compliments show we care?
- Did you feel happy to receive a note?

Each team is then divided in half so that groups are smaller; approximately 5-6 students and together, the teams play handball. One game is being played on each half of the gym or field.
